Duel: Game Show Premier Monday
There's going to be a duel. Twenty-four contestants will show up for the challenge. You will want to see the Duel for yourself. You'll find the action on ABC Monday, December 17, at 8/7c. The premier of Duel will run December 17, through Friday, December 21.
Duel is a game show that combines strategy with multiple choice trivia questions. It is a mixture, according to ABC, of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and World Tournament of Poker. Contestants face off head-to-head in a multiple choice trivia game.
Prior to the duel, contestants are given 10 chips valued at $5000. Contestants place chips on A, B, C, or D corresponding to the letter of the correct answer. Contestants unsure of an answer may place as many chips on the board as they think they need. Saving chips and deciding how far to safely narrow their risk to the right answer introduces the component of chance, to a game of skill.
Contestants also have to weigh the risk of answering incorrectly against the value of their remaining chips. If they place the wrong bet, and miss an answer it is immediate elimination. Duel requires nerves, skill, and knowledge. Each chip placed on an incorrect answer is collected and added to the ultimate jackpot. Once a wrong answer is given, or a player runs out of chips, the duel is over.
The duel pits players against each other two at a time. The winner of selects the person with whom they will deal. Among the competitors are individuals as diverse as an attorney, litigation assistant, nurse, belly dancer, umpire, and taxi driver among others.
The grand finale, among the final four contestants will air Sunday, December 23, at 8/7c.
